OsteopathicHealth Centre Team
Peter Engmark is a graduate of The Swedish College of Chiropractic in Sweden, completing the program in 1995. He had his own clinic in Sweden where he practiced as a Chiropractor and a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) counsellor, until he and his wife, Lennie, moved to Dubai to be with their daughter.
Peter has always possessed a deep interest in the interrelationship of the body, mind and spirit. He has himself experienced and lived through long-term chronic pain, following a major car accident in 1974. Through dealing with his own pain, Peter has gained tremendous insight and developed a profound empathy for people who are suffering from physical pain, and the mental agony that it causes. Peter discovered that, together with Chiropractic care, the practice of mindfulness meditation has significantly improved his condition rather than any medication.
After years of working as a chiropractor and counselling therapist, Peter decided to pursue a postgraduate degree in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT, in 2006. He also has a 2 year postgraduate degree in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST). Today, he combines chiropractic practice, BCST and CBT to treat different disorders and illnesses of his patients. He specializes in trauma, headaches/migraines and stress management plus ‘normal’ chiropractic.
He has devised programs focusing on CBT and weight loss and for depression and panic-anxiety disorders. In 2012, he joined the OHC family at our Dubai Healthcare City branch.
Chiropractic, Biodynamic Craniosacral and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Care for Stress Management
Studies show that chiropractic and Biodynamic Craniosacral care can help individuals with stress management. In Dubai, OHC is able to help patients more effectively deal with stress through the expertise of our resident chiropractor, Peter Engmark.
Understanding the different types of stress
There are three common types of stress that people may experience:
* Physical stressor – Caused by poor diet, inadequate sleep, illness or trauma.
* Emotional stressor – Caused by a person’s interactions with other people, or by his/her personal experiences/emotional trauma.
* Environmental stressor – Caused by environmental factors, such as pollution, noise, quality of air, etc.
How chiropractic care can help with stress management in Dubai
Chronic stress can cause muscle tension and tightening, which may trigger uneven pressure on the skeletal system of a person, thereby creating subluxations, or the partial dislocation of the vertebrae. The focus of chiropractic is the spine, which is connected to the nervous system. Manipulation of the joints can help ease tension, which can also relieve stress on certain parts of the skeleton and alleviate subluxations. Relieving subluxations can help an individual achieve a balanced spine, which is an important factor in personal stress management.
